An elderly lady decided to replace an old sunroom porch roof that had built up to 3 layers of old roofing over the years. After calling a contractor from the Yellow Pages, she decided to hire him to remove the 3 layers and lay down a new one at an agreed upon price of $900.

When the time came to do the work, three individuals from the company showed up, invested less than ½ hour of labor to complete the job, and charged the lady $1800, rather than the original quote of $900.

After inspecting the completed job, her son determined that along with being overcharged by $900, the contractor did not remove any previous roofing, but instead added another layer of roofing, making it a total of 4 layers.

Furious over this injustice to his mother, the son (along with 2 of his older brothers) went after the company, was reimbursed the $900 overcharge, and had the sunroom porch re-roofed correctly for the original quote of $900.

This story is true, and the elderly lady was my mother-in-law. With sheer determination, hers sons were able to correct an injustice.
